What is Sciatica?

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body. It begins in the lower spine and travels down into the leg, branching off into smaller nerves that travel down into the feet. The signs of sciatica involve pain that travels down the leg and into the calf, leg weakness, numbness and tingling into the leg and disruptions in walking, sleeping/resting or driving. This happens when there is a compression of the sciatic nerve. Compression of the sciatic nerve can occur in a variety of different ways, for example, degeneration, spinal stenosis, herniated disc, subluxation, or pregnancy.

How To Treat Sciatica?

As chiropractors, we are trained to adjust spinal subluxations that put pressure on the nerves. At Empower Chiropractic, we work to address the cause of the sciatic pain. We complete a thorough health history, nerve assessment and muscle assessment to see where the misalignments are in the spine, and how severe they are. We will determine if we need postural chiropractic x-rays so we can identify the root cause of the sciatica issue. If so, we do have an x-ray unit in the office for your convenience!

With time and repetition, many practice members have already felt relief with the sciatic pain and are back to engaging in activities they love! If you or someone you know is suffering from sciatic pain please schedule a consultation and assessment appointment today.
